Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Ghosts of Tomorrow
The city smelled of ozone and burnt concrete. Lagos had returned to life, but the air carried a tension only Blink could feel. Time had healed itself, but the Rift left behind ripples—tiny fractures in reality that throbbed like a heartbeat.
Blink stood on a rooftop overlooking the restored city. He flexed his fingers, still tingling from the battle with Kifo. Every fiber of his body ached. He had pushed farther than he thought possible, yet the lingering pulse of the Rift reminded him: this fight was far from over.
A SHADOW IN MOTION
A streak of blue light darted across the skyline faster than Blink himself. He froze mid-step.
“Impossible…” he muttered.
Another streak. And another. Not just one, but many, weaving through the night like living lightning.
Then a voice called from the darkness, amplified by the city’s skyline.
“Adams Ibrahim.”
Blink’s heart skipped. He didn’t recognize the voice, but there was a strange familiarity, a weight to it.
From the shadows emerged a figure in sleek, silver-and-blue armor, his form radiating kinetic energy that pulsed like a second heartbeat. His visor reflected Blink’s own blue glow.
“Who… who are you?” Blink demanded.
The figure stepped closer.
“I am you,” he said. “From a future that may or may not exist. I am… The Blink from Tomorrow’s Time.”
Blink staggered backward.
“This isn’t real. This can’t be real.”
The figure shook his head.
“I am very real. And I’ve come to warn you. Kifo was only the beginning. The Rift is unstable, yes—but if it tears entirely, time itself will collapse. And when that happens… even I cannot survive it.”
Blink swallowed hard.
“Then why are you here? Why not fix it yourself?”
The future Blink’s gaze hardened.
“Because only you—your intention—can stabilize the Rift. I’ve come to teach you how.”
LESSON OF THE FIRST BLINK
Future Blink raised his hands. Time slowed. The world around them seemed to fragment, splitting into multiple timelines. Blink felt dizzy, unsteady.
“You’ve learned to move faster than time. That is a gift. But now, you must learn to think faster than time. Every choice you make creates a ripple—every ripple becomes a wave.”
Blink focused on the pulse of the Rift. He felt the strange rhythm beneath the city, the energy that seemed alive, desperate to escape.
“See it?” Future Blink asked. “Every fracture, every instability—it’s a pattern. You can weave yourself through it. But you cannot brute-force it. Only precision… only control… only intention.”
Blink nodded, determination hardening in his chest.
“Teach me.”
THE TRAINING OF SPEED AND TIME
For hours, or maybe days—time had little meaning in this space—Blink trained with his future self. He learned to weave between moments, to touch multiple points in a single second, to feel the weight of every heartbeat in the city below.
Every movement sent sparks across the skyline. Every blink became a thread connecting the present with the possible futures.
And finally, Future Blink stopped, lowering his visor.
“You are ready,” he said.
Blink’s chest burned with energy. He had never felt so powerful… and so aware.
“But,” Future Blink continued, “this is only the beginning. Kifo will rise again. Obrenu will not forget. And the Rift… the Rift will test everything you are. Are you prepared to become what you were meant to be?”
Blink clenched his fists, blue sparks crackling around him.
“I am ready. For Lagos. For this city. For my people. I am… The Blink.”
The two figures—past and future—stood atop the Lagos skyline, blue lightning dancing between them. Somewhere in the distance, the Rift pulsed, and time itself seemed to hold its breath.
The real battle had only to begin.
