Summary
After World War III, Southern Africa is poisoned by nuclear and biochemical fallout. The elites build Songo, a heavily fortified city at the nation’s center, sealed off from the surrounding Outerlands—toxic slums where the poor are forced to live. As Songo becomes overcrowded, corporations push into the Outerlands to expand, hiring security guards to protect construction sites from gangs and unrest.
Nii Boye, a young guard from the Outerlands, works night shifts on a dangerous minefield. Beyond human threats, the land is plagued by colossal mutated pests—towering lizards called Agama, giant ants known as Nta, and massive worms called Akokono—creatures that attack only the Outerlands and never cross into Songo.
Nii Boye discovers his ancestral gift: neon-green eyes that see in total darkness and twin inherited swords with glowing handles. As he slays the monsters, the Outerlands people survive on their meat, and he earns the name Neon Nii Boye. With a small group of allies, he uncovers a darker truth—an unseen entity controls the creatures’ appearances, using them to maintain fear, division, and power.
Set in a ruined Southern Africa, the story mirrors social separation: Songo as untouchable privilege, the Outerlands as abandoned survival, and one man standing between them with a blade in each hand.
