Summary
Set in The Gambia, Lazy Crow follows Baba Jallow, a young man known for extreme laziness and avoiding responsibility after his childhood dream of becoming a hero was publicly ridiculed at school. One night after a party, he is attacked, abducted, drained of blood during secret experiments, and dumped at a rubbish site.
Near death, Baba survives by drinking the blood of a crow, triggering a supernatural transformation. He awakens with glowing green eyes and a mysterious ring fused to his finger. Soon, he experiences sleepwalking episodes and strange abilities he cannot explain. With the help of a determined female investigator, he searches for answers.
They encounter the Architect, a scientist who reveals he engineered Baba’s transformation using an ancient Egyptian relic—the ring, which manifests as a crow-headed, winged shield, formed from the first blood Baba consumed. The Architect created Baba as an experiment: a reluctant super hero meant to test his teams of supervillains.
The investigation later uncovers a dark truth—the Architect orchestrated the death of Baba’s parents to shape his future. Now, torn between apathy and purpose, Baba must decide whether to remain lazy or embrace his destiny as Lazy Crow, a sarcastic, unconventional African super hero fighting forces he never chose.
